Description
Natural Limewash is a genuine, European slaked lime paint with only natural mineral ingredients. It is a concentrated finish designed for interior use. The paint develops a soft patina and slightly mottled appearance when hand brushed. The luxurious finish allows for the lime to “bloom” through the dried paint resulting in depth and texture as if it has been weathered for decades. The alluring finish is graceful and compliments any décor, is always one-of-a-kind and cannot be duplicated by ordinary paints.
Limewash is extremely healthy to use and is earth friendly. It contains no added volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) and no allergens. It meets or exceeds all local, state, or national environmental guidelines. Manufacturing processes are designed with minimum impact on the environment. Limewash is also vapor permeable and allows indoor walls to breathe naturally to remain drier and provide a healthier indoor environment.
Use on interior walls and ceilings of masonry, brick, stucco, drywall and plaster. Previously painted surfaces require the use of Mineral Primer to create a porous mineral surface for the Limewash to bond with. Self-priming on bare and porous masonry, drywall and plaster. Not recommended for wet or splash areas in kitchens, bathrooms or around other water features. It may also be used on interior wood that will not receive traffic or handling, such as beams or ceilings, when a limewashed matte finish is desired. Not for use on doors, windows, trim, cabinets or floors. Finish with Clear Matte Flat Sealer for a more durable finish in higher traffic areas.
Coverage
Typically requires 2–3 coats to develop mottled, tone-on-tone appearance. Coverage will vary depending on the type of surface, porosity and texture as well as application methods, equipment and workmanship. Coverage below is for each coat applied.
Quart 55—70 square feet
Gallon 225—275 square feet
5 Gallon 925—1375 square feet
Application
You will need an extra bucket, painter’s tape, drop cloths a paint roller with a 3/8” or ½” cover, paint brush, stir stick, paint tray and liner, ladder if necessary, dampened cloth to clean up spatters, latex gloves and eye protection.
Previously painted surfaces should be clean and free of loose or peeling paint, dirt, grease, mold and mildew or other household grime and the surface should by dry. New drywall and plaster should be sanded smooth with all dust removed. One coat of Mineral Primer is required for previously painted surfaces and two coats may be needed for new drywall to create a uniform mineral matte surface.
Mix Limewash with 50% water and mix until smooth and homogenous. Use a paint brush to cut in around edges and corners then use a paint roller to Limewash to remaining area creating a base coat. Your first coat may appear blotchy as it dries, and that is OK, you’ll be applying a second coat of Limewash. After the first coat of Limewash dries a minimum of 4 hours you are ready to apply another coat. Thin Limewash, if desired, another 25% to create a more translucent wash. Using a Keim Pro Limewash oval brush, apply Limewash in a random pattern, like fitting together a puzzle. Use overlapping “X” brush patterns to create a very random finish. Overlap your brush pattern. to create thicker and thinner areas. This will create a more “mottled” appearance. Repeat this step as desired to create more depth of color and mottling. The beauty of Limewash is the many layers that create the unique look, and in this case, more layers is better than less. Note about color: Darker Limewash colors will display more mottling and color variation than lighter colors. See product label for complete instructions.
Avoid drips, spills and painting adjacent areas. Clean up spills immediately with a damp cloth as it will be difficult to remove once dried. Clean tools with soap and warm water.
Dry to touch: 2—4 hours at 70°F and 50% R.H.
Recoat: 4—6 hours
