PREPPING FOR LIMEWASH

Let’s create the perfect foundation together!

Preparing to paint with Limewash is a breeze and feels just like using traditional paint—no specialized tools or skills required. Before we dive in, let’s take care of a few essential preparations: tape off any woodwork, and cover your floors and furniture to keep everything protected. With these simple steps, we can ensure your Limewash experience is smooth and enjoyable, resulting in beautifully finished walls that inspire.

Let’s get started!

GATHER YOUR TOOLS

Collecting your tools in one place and having them ready to go, will ensure a smooth project, from beginning to end.

To Prime, you will need:
― Primer—enough to cover your wall area
― Paint brush to cut in tight spaces
― 3/8” nap roller cover, frame, and roller tray
― Damp cloth to wipe up any spills

To Limewash, you will need:
― Limewash in desired color
― 3.5 or 5-gallon clean bucket to thin Limewash
― Water to thin Limewash
― Paint brush to cut in tight spaces
― ½” nap roller cover, frame, and roller tray
― Damp cloth to wipe up any spills
― Spray bottle filled with water

PROTECT SURFACES NOT BEING LIMEWASHED

When it comes to achieving that perfect limewashed finish, preparation is key! Our Mineral Primer and Limewash dry quickly and form a strong bond, so it’s essential to protect any surfaces that won’t be painted. With a little extra care, you can ensure your hard work results in flawless, beautiful walls.

Preparation Steps:

  1. Clear the Area: If possible, move furniture out of the room. This will give you ample space to work and minimize the risk of accidental spills.

  2. Tape Off Surfaces: Use easy-release masking tape or plastic sheeting to cover wood trim, cabinets, door jambs, windowsills, and any other areas you want to protect.
  3. Cover the Floors: Make sure to shield your flooring and pay special attention to any glass and metal objects nearby. Remember, glass is made of pure silica, which can etch when in contact with mineral and lime-based finishes.
  4. Clean Up Spills Immediately: If an accident happens, don’t panic! Use clean water and a damp rag to wipe up spills right away. It’s crucial never to let the mineral or lime finish dry completely, as that can make it extremely difficult to remove.

Final Thoughts: Take your time to ensure everything that isn’t being painted is well protected. With these precautions, you’ll set the stage for a more enjoyable and successful limewashing experience that will transform your space beautifully!

PRIME FOR THE PERFECT FOUNDATION

Transform your space with the timeless beauty of Limewash, an extraordinary finish that celebrates its Mediterranean roots. Unlike traditional paints, Limewash is free of “sticky” acrylic additives, so it should be paired with a Mineral Primer for optimal adhesion and performance.

Let’s get started!

When applying primer to new drywall or latex-painted walls, follow the standard painting procedure. Use a paintbrush to trim tight areas and apply Interior Mineral Primer with a 3/8” nap roller for optimal results. Ensure you cover the walls and ceilings completely with a uniform layer, avoiding runs and sags.
